SimFlyers Scenery
update
for scenery installation into MS Flight Simulator 2004
– A Century of Flight
©2003 by SimFlyers Associated
This document covers install instructions
for installing SimFlyers sceneries into FS 2004. Please read this manual carefully.
Please understand that we will
not be able to reply to support inquiries which indicate that the user asking
has not read this document. Thanks for
your understanding.
1. What this package is
This package is an update pack to update
and install a SimFlyers scenery (either a "Main Scenery" or a
"Static Scenery") into MS Flight Simulator 2004 – A Century of
Flight.
This is not the full and complete scenery
package. You will need the original scenery package (that is - "the FS
2002 version") to make this update/installation work. We have done this to
save you download time and to save us bandwidth.
On running the installer the scenery will
automatically be installed into FS 2004. You also can use the installer to
uninstall the scenery.
For installation into FS 2002 (or FS 2000
if it's an older scenery) please use the installer provided with the original
scenery package.
Please refer to the readme.htm coming with
the original scenery package for details on installation (also for full details
on installation into FS 2004).
2. What you will need to make it work
The following files are required:
SFSetup-KPHL2004.exe (Later referred to as "EXE":)
This is the installer program. It is included in this package. The name may
vary (this example is the KPHL installer) – it is the only EXE in the package.
KPHL2004upd.sfd (Later referred to as "Update SFD":)
This is the data file containing the update data. It is included in this
package. The name may vary (this example is the KPHL data file) – it is the
only SFD in this package.
Some
update packages do not include this file – mainly static sceneries, but also
LIBD and KLAS. In these cases this file is not required (obviously).
KPHL.sfd (Later
referred to as "Main SFD":) This is the data file containing
most of the scenery data. It is NOT included in this package but it is always
required. It is included in the original scenery package (the "FS2002
compatible one").
If
you already have downloaded that SimFlyers scenery package you do not need to
download this anew – simply use the SFD file from your original scenery
package.
For installation of a full (registered) version you will need a registration
key. If you do not yet have a registration key for the scenery please refer
to the readme.htm coming with the original scenery package. You'll find further
information there about how to obtain a key.
If you already do own a registration key please note the following:
We (SimFlyers) are providing this update free of charge. Users who
already have purchased a valid registration will not have to purchase a new
key. However due to security reasons the older type of keys wil not work
anymore with this FS 2004 installer.
If you have a scenery key of the kind xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (that is:
20 numbers, separated by hyphens) the installer won't accept this key as valid.
You can however obtain a replacement key which will be a personalized
one. Please see the section "Key replacement" below for details.
3. Installation
Before installing or uninstalling this
package please close all programs and applications.
Unzip the files included in this package
into any unZipped directory you wish. You don't have to create an extra folder
as this will only be a temporary folder. The setup files can be deleted
afterwards (until you want to de-install the scenery).
Please do not run the setup program from
within the WinZip window or from a network drive - please extract the files to
your local HD and then run the setup.
Also extract and copy the "Main
SFD" file (see above) from the original scenery package into this
temporary folder.
In order to work the following three files
must be in the same folder on your local hard drive:
- the EXE
- the Update SFD (if it was included in
this package)
- the Main SFD
Run the EXE.
This is the setup program.
Installation works as described in the
readme.htm coming with the original scenery.
After installation the scenery is ready to
fly. All SimFlyers sceneries are in folder [FS2004]\SimFlyers\
Notes about static
scenery
If the scenery package that you are
installing is a static scenery then please note that you need to install it AFTER
INSTALLING THE MAIN SCENERY.
When opening 2004s scenery library the
static scenery must be at a position ABOVE the main scenery (otherwise it won't
be displayed).
Installation of the static scenery works
the same way as installation of the main scenery.
After having installed the scenery please
check back on our website http://www.simflyers.net
for updates, bugfixes or additional files to download.
4. AI traffic in FS 2004
The scenery, buildings, structures are
compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.
AI traffic however does not yet work as
designed and intended. All scenery designers and addon developers dealing with AI
traffic are eagerly awaiting the release of a tool/SDK by Microsoft and AFCAD
by Lee Swordy to rectify the situation. As soon as these tools are available we
will be going to fix this. In the meantime AI aircraft will park in buildings
and taxi/takeoff/land next to runways and taxiways. We apologize for the
inconvenience.
5. Key replacement
You can however obtain a replacement key which will be a personalized
one.
Please send us an email address to keys@simflyers.net,
stating the following
Your name and full address
Your email address
The scenery/sceneries that you need key replacements for.
Please state all of the information in the same form as you did when
originally ordering the keys.
We are searching our user database by email address – if you are not
sure which email address you have stated at the time of purchase please include
all email addresses that might come into question.
Please understand that we cannot do a search only by your name – some
users have included a middle initial when ordering, some have not, some have
even done it differently in two different orders, so the only way to do a
reliable search is by email address.
We are expecting a high number of user
inquiries especially within the first weeks/months, so please do your best to help
us – also please allow some 24 – 48 hrs for the replacements. We're aiming to
deliver them much faster though.
If you already are owning a key but have
lost it please do the following:
If you have purchased the key within the
last 18 months please log into your Simmarket account (at www.simmarket.com - that's where you have
purchased the key).
The key still should be there for you to
pick up. If that's not the case please follow the "replacement"
procedure as described above.
Enjoy the scenery!
