Download / Installation / Registration

Question:
I am trying to install a scenery and receive a message "FS2002 not found", although I have FS 2002 on my computer (same with FS 2000 and FS 2004). The scenery cannot be installed. What can I do?

Answer:
We have uploaded new installer programs to our website recently, these will offer you a file selector box when FS 200x is not detected automatically.
Please enter the relevant download page of your airport(s) and download the new installer package, replace the old one with it.

Question:
I am trying to install a scenery in "registered" mode and although entering the registration key I only get the demo version of the scenery installed. Any help?

Answer:
In June 2002 we have modified our key system and. have uploaded new installer programs to our website. Maybe you got a scenery package with an old installer (which only works with our older, short kind of keys).
The new installers work with both long and short keys.
Please enter the relevant download page of your airport(s) and download the new installer package, replace the old one with it.
An indicator: If you see a "licence agreement" pop up during the install process then you have the new (correct) installer.

Question:
I have upgraded from FS 2002 to FS 2004. I already had my sceneries working in FS 2002. Now when installing the scenery with the new installers and using my old key I only get the demo version of the scenery installed. Any help?

Answer:
The new FS 2002/2004 installers require the new key format, so if you have the old style keys (looking like 12345-12345-12345-12345) you will need to replace them with the new 700+ characer long keys. We are offering a free key replacement service - there is a readme file, covering the replacement key procedure - please check this document fs2004update-readme.htm
There you should find all information you need (see point 5 - key replacement)

Question:
I would like to know how frame rate is on my system. Also can you tell me how installation works? Do I have to fiddle around with any files? Can you give me any hint?

Answer:
Well, most of your questions can be answered "by yourself" (which always is the most reliable source - never believe the guy who wants to sell them)
:-)
Please download the scenery/sceneries in which you are interested and install them. They automatically will be installed in demo mode (with some
few features missing), but you can easily check how installation works, how
frame rate is and so on.

Question:
After downloading a scenery as soon as it reaches my Winzip I get a problem warning saying that "the zip file is incomplete" (or similar) and some files in the ZIPped package are missing.
What went wrong?

Answer:
Seems your download is corrupted. Perhaps you have caught a peak-time at either our end or at your ISP?
Usually our servers have (statistically) more than 99% availability - on the other hand it's sometimes our own private ISPs (Internet Service Providers) being slow at certain times of the day - that might also have happened with your ISP in this case.
It might help to download at a different time of the day and/or use a download manager which allows continuing an aborted download.

Question:
I have purchased World Airports. Can I download an FS 2004 update for this?

Answer:
A FS 2004 compatibility patch is available - it depends on which version of World Airports you have.
"Just Flight" version:
The update is available from the Just Flight website www.justflight.com. If you have registered World Airports you will find it in the list of your registered products in section "Support".
In case you need further assistance with that please check back with info@justflight.com - they'll be able (and happy) to help
"Strategy First" version:
The update is available from the Strategy First website http://www.strategyfirst.com/en/games/addons/

You should be able to determine the version from what's printed on the box. In general the Strategy First version is being sold in the US only, the Just Flight Version is available in rest of the world.

Question:
I want to install the scenery anew but have misplaced my registration key - I cannot find it anymore. Can you help?

Answer:
Please log into your Simmarket account (at www.simmarket.com - that's where you have purchased the key).
The key still will be there for you to pick up.

Question:
I have been at the Simmarket site but the key isn't there anymore. Can you offer any additional help?

Answer:
Please email keys@simflyers.net and provide the following information
- The scenery/sceneries you need the key(s) for,
- your name and full address and
- your email address
that you have used for ordering.

Please do NOT send any credit card information. Also please note we are not interested in your current address. What we'd need to know is the address/email address that you have stated when originally ordering the registration key.
So in case you are not sure which email address you have used please state all possible ones. We are searching our user database by email addresses.

Question:
I have never seen such a long registration key before - am I supposed to type in all numbers manually?

Answer:
The key indeed is very long - it's some 726 characters, beginning with "startofkey" and ending with "endofkey".
It is that huge as it's personalized and we needed to have it so long to allow redundancy for random elements (making it harder to crack). Since introduction of these keys the number of SimFlyers serialz on the web has significantly reduced - a good sign.
Just to get the procedure right:
If you already have installed the demo version of the scenery please uninstall it.
Switch to the program where you have the key (your email program or a text program if you have saved it as text file). Select everything between the words "startofkey" and "endofkey". It does not matter if you include these two words or not. We suggest you do include them to be sure that you have selected the whole key.
Now press CTRL+C on your keyboard. The key now has been copied to the internal Windows clipboard.
Run the scenery installer program, mouse-click into the big white text field and press CTRL+V. This will paste the key into that field. You then should see the last few lines of the key (it should end with "endofkey")(!!). If you don't see the word "endofkey" then please go back to the program where the key is, select it again and copy it again.
In the installer program press INSTALL and continue with the full installation.

Display / Operation

Question:
How can I get the jetways and the vehicles move towards my aircraft?

Answer:
Have you already checked the documentation that comes with the scenery (in most cases it is available as separate download)?
There you find detailed explanations on how to operate the active features of the sceneries including active jetways and the serviceArmada.

Question:
I cannot tune in some COM frequencies to operate the jetDock.
My Flight Simulator only accepts even number, so the Airbuses work fine, but the frequencies for the Boeings cannot be tuned it.
This problem should occur in FS 2000 only.

Answer:
To fix the frequency problem simply change your frequency increment in FS 2000. Please do the following:
Run FS 2000 and go to the menu options-settings-instrument.
Set the "COM frequency increment" to 25 kHz (instead of the 50 kHz to which it probably is set) and it should work.

Question:
I cannot see any jetways at all, also I can't see any service vehicles.

Answer:
When there are no jetways visible at all, It might be the following:
The jetways only work at a rather high scenery density setting. To adjust this please do the following:
FS2000:
Run FS 2000, go to the menu "options - settings - display - image quality" and set the two sliders at the bottom right ("scenery density") to max values. The jetways now should show up.
FS 2002:
Run FS 2002, go to the menu "options - settings - display -scenery" and set the two sliders at the bottom left ("scenery complexity / dynamic scenery") to "extremely dense". Should be OK.

Question:
When I go to a airport I put in the frequencies in right so the service armada and the jetdock could come to the aircraft... when I am in the cockpit or the Virtual cockpit view I could see the jetdock and the service armada in it's place but when I go to the spot view all of the service armada are gone and the jetdock is not on the aircraft position...

Answer:
As these are rather "heavy" features we reduced the visibility a bit. If we hadn't done this, the impact on frame rates would have been very high (and on the other hand there might have been cateringArmadas at other stands visible where there should be none).
So when viewing these features from an outside view use the following maximum viewing distances.
You can adjust them via the FS menu "views - view options".
When viewing your parking stand from top down view please set a maximum distance of 830ft AGL altitude.
When viewing the scenery from spot plane view, please set a maximum of: Distance of 325ft, altitude 102 ft.
These values should be convenient for all types of aircraft.

Question:
When placing my aircraft on an airport I end up standing in a building or next to the runway. The same seems to happen to computer generated aircraft. They park in buildings, taxi across grass and take off next to the runways. Is there a way to fix that?

Answer:
Please download the AI traffic fixes from our "AI traffic" section. These fixes allow correct taxiing, starting and landing of AI aircraft. In section AI traffic please follow the link to either FS 2002 or FS 2004, read the page carefully and download all files needed as described on that page.

Question:
When loading a scenery my computer crashes with a message "out of memory error". I have plenty of RAM installed. What can I do?

Answer:
This seems to be a hardware- / Windows related problem. Especially Windows 98 and Windows ME are known for "not optimized" memory management. The result can be out of memory errors even with sufficient memory installed. Flight Simulator is a very ressource critical program, so the problem mentioned can occur with any "heavy" addon like sceneries or aircraft addons. Updating to the latest Windows version usually helps, XP seems to be very stable under this aspect.

Question:
I want to remove static aircraft in your sceneries in order to free up some parking positions. How can I do that?

Answer:
Please see the list below. Locate the folder [FS200x]\SimFlyers\[Airport folder]\Scenery
... where [FS200x] is your FS main directory and [Airport folder] is the folder of the relevant scenery.
Please delete (or temporarily remove) the files below.

Question:
I'm using FS Navigator. When running the program with a new scenery installed (e.g. KJFK) the program starts collecting the data but then freezes.I cannot get the scenery updated in FS Navigator.

Answer:
Because of the extreme complexity of some sceneries (esp KJFK) when compiling an FSNav database it takes a very long time, but you can try one of two options -
• Wait for the FSNav compiler to finish it's work. We tested it on a low spec laptop and it took almost 2 hours!
• Temporarily move all the KJFK BGL's from the SCENERY folder to a temporary folder except the RUNWAY11 to 15.BGL files and EXCLUDE 01.BGL file. Then run the FSNav compiler, it will compile KJFK in a fraction of a second. After that has done it's work you can put back all the KJFK BGL's into the SCENERY folder and run FS.
The same should apply to other sceneries accordingly.

Question:
Why are some sceneries made with gmax and others are not?

Answer:
gmax is not the only program that's able to generate the new FS 2002/2004 style polygons which are the main reason for good performance - other programs can do that as well. We're different developers working with different techniques and tools, however we're trying to ensure one common level of quality.

Question:
I want to remove the skyline and tree rows from Manchester and/or Philadelphia. How can I do that?

Answer:
You can download a fix for Manchester here and a fix for Philadelphia here. Please download and extract the files into the \Texture\ folder of the relevant scenery. That is: Extract the files from the Manchester fix to [FS]\Simflyers\EGCC\Texture\, extract the files from the Philadelphia fix to [FS]\Simflyers\KPHL\Texture\.
This will make the tree rows and skyline invisible.
